Lafayette 148 NY's pink leather blazer, Barbour's tartan showerproof parka and Banana Republic's suede “trucker” jacket.
I was on a Zoom call this week with my colleagues when one said, “Your style doesn’t change much.” True,I stick to a comfort zone of neutral colors and classic staples with a hint of preppy. But, am I in a rut or just REALLY BORING? At my, er, advanced age, should I ponder a different direction or does my wardrobe just need a tweak? Hmmm.
In the meantime, what’s on my mind—and probably yours—is what the hell to wear now? Yesterday it was 30 degrees and snowing; Monday, it’s going to be sunny and 65. So, it’s still winter with cameos of early spring. But looking forward to the latter, there’s a ton of new, good-looking jackets to choose from: Bombers are back in style; leather and suede blazers are emerging in spring hues; and track jackets and anoraks fall right in line with designers’ love affair with sports fashion.
Wear them with jeans, of course, but also with pleated pants, midi skirts and dresses. For her Spring 2025 runway, Miuccia Prada paired a sequin dress with a bright-yellow, zip-up windbreaker. No one except a celeb or a model is going to wear a silver dress with an anorak, but I appreciate her imagination. Maybe not that visor.
Besides this brick red-and-brown-striped combo, this slouchy quilted jacket with dolman sleeves and a high collar comes in nine other colors/patterns. Wear it open over a sweater or cinched in with a belt over straight jeans.
We're a year past Barbie mania, but pink has resurfaced for spring. With elastic at the cuffs, it's easy to roll up the sleeves and have them stay that way on this cropped cotton-and-linen-blend jacket. A drawstring cord lets you also adjust the waist.
Red is also, er, hot for spring as are varsity jackets. So, embrace your inner sporty girl with this bomber style designed from heavy-weight satin-y fabric to keep you cozy during finicky spring weather.
You can top Me + Em's navy Perfect Pleat Front Man Pant with this cropped striped jacket, and you're set for a wear-almost-anywhere look for the change in seasons. Note: Me + Em has a bunch of other jackets that tugged at my purse strings, including this cotton-blend houndstooth and this one with a swing silhouette and crystal buttons for after dark.
Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada—did you hear that a sequel is in the works?—speaks at length about the origin of cerulean blue. Although Banana Republic calls this jacket's color cerulean, it looks more like pale blue to me. But never mind. How refreshing to see a suede jacket in a pastel hue, along with a relaxed, hip-length fit, snap buttons and practical pockets. I also have my eye on this cropped, fitted suede jacket in capri blue from leather specialist Arma.
The duchesse satin material moves the gray of this jacket from a bit gloomy to gleaming. I like the sporty details—zipper front, classic collar and adjustable waist. For a spiffy head-to-toe look, I'd pair it with the matching, cropped-leg Roa pant.
This gorgeous jacket with flattering bracelet sleeves, patch pockets and even a silk lining is très spendy ($1,998) but will, pardon the borrowed expression, spark joy when you wear it. It comes in small ( 39.5" bust), medium ( 42" bust) and large ( 44.5" bust).
Based on a vintage hunting jacket the designers found in Paris, this barn jacket (31 inches long) is an ideal transitional piece, roomy enough to layer over a big, chunky sweater but will also look great over a T-shirt and skirt. Besides khaki, it's also available in red, navy and brown.
A comfy, bum-covering jacket—not in your usual plaid-- keeps you safe from sudden showers with its water-resistant finish, oversized funnel neck and cinch-able, drawcord waist.
The nylon fabric buffets the wind, while a mesh lining is soft against your skin. The hems are adjustable and you can store the hood or wear it as a funnel neck.
So fun! 🙏❤️🙏
It's looking as if we could actually wear a jacket instead of a bulky coat for the next few days. Yippee!
